About This Project
This West Chester home had good bones but needed a cohesive vision to bring its first floor to life. The homeowners came to Craftsworth Construction with a clear picture in mind: a farmhouse kitchen with enough personality to anchor the entire main level, connected to living and dining spaces that felt warm, collected, and distinctly theirs. The result is a first-floor transformation that delivers on every front.
The kitchen is the heart of this renovation, and it makes a statement from every angle. Crisp white shaker cabinets with soft-close doors line the perimeter walls, paired with generous quartz countertops that provide ample workspace for everyday cooking and holiday-scale entertaining. The showpiece is a hand-selected decorative cement tile backsplash in a geometric medallion pattern, its gray, white, and olive tones lending an Old World warmth that sets the entire room apart from a typical white kitchen. The pattern continues seamlessly behind a professional stainless steel gas range and up beside the custom paneled range hood, creating a striking focal wall that feels both artisan and timeless.
A vintage-inspired sage green rolling island on caster wheels sits at the center of the kitchen, offering additional prep space and cookbook storage while preserving the open floor plan's easy flow. Its weathered wood top and turned legs contrast beautifully against the kitchen's clean white cabinetry, adding a layer of patina and farmhouse character that cannot be replicated with new materials. Above the main countertop peninsula, a trio of clear glass bell pendant lights with brass accents hangs from the ceiling, casting warm pools of light across the quartz surface and the row of dark-stained bar stools below.
The fixtures throughout are brushed brass, from the elegantly arched kitchen faucet to the cabinet knobs and pulls, tying the room together with a golden thread that complements the warm hickory hardwood flooring. These wide-plank hickory floors run continuously from the kitchen through the dining room, living room, hallway, and family room, unifying the entire first floor with their natural grain variation and honey-amber tones. Recessed LED lighting is spaced precisely across the ceiling, ensuring the space is bright and welcoming at every hour.
The renovation extends well beyond the kitchen. A formal dining room anchored by an ornate chandelier and rustic farmhouse table seats the whole family beneath soft gray walls. An adjacent living room makes a grand impression with a baby grand piano positioned beside the front entry, with upholstered armchairs and a tufted sofa arranged around an antique area rug. A repurposed pair of vintage louvered shutters adds architectural character against the gray walls, while curated artwork and family photos personalize every corner.
The family room flows directly off the kitchen peninsula, separated by a striking exposed wood beam and post that frames the transition between cooking and gathering spaces. A leather sectional sofa, industrial-style coffee table on caster wheels, and wall-mounted antler decor give this room a relaxed, lived-in feel that balances the kitchen's more polished finishes. Bar stools tucked beneath the peninsula let family members perch and chat while dinner comes together just a few feet away.
Every hallway, every transition, and every room in this project reflects Craftsworth's commitment to carrying a design vision through from start to finish. This is not a kitchen renovation with an afterthought of adjacent rooms; it is a complete first-floor reimagining where every surface, fixture, and finish was chosen to work in concert.
